Summer Program: Armenian in Yerevan
The Yerevan summer study-abroad program is a special 3-week, 2-credit course designed to extend and solidify language skills developed in CLI intensive Armenian classes. The programs share a single curriculum, use the same materials, and in many cases the same instructors at ASU and abroad. Basically, class ends on Friday in Arizona and picks up where it left off in Yerevan on Monday.
The Yerevan program offers two levels of instruction:
Students in both courses share a common set of activities and excursions. See the Yerevan co-curricular activities schedule.
Located in the heart of the Caucasus mountains, with a stunning view of Mount Ararat, Yerevan is the capital and largest city of the Republic of Armenia. One of the oldest cities of the world, with a population of roughly one million, Yerevan offers a wide variety of educational and cultural opportunities, in a friendly and safe social environment. The city is dotted with ancient churches, monuments, restaurants, cafes, and other recreational facilities.
Classes meet weekdays from 9 a.m. to noon. Cultural activities take place every afternoon. For a complete list of activities, see the Yerevan co-curricular activities schedule.
Materials for the Yerevan program are the same as those for the intensive Elementary Armenian at ASU (SLC 194) and intensive Intermediate Armenian at ASU (SLC 294).
- Elementary Armenian:
Successful completion of CLI Intensive Elementary Armenian, 2 semesters of 100-level Armenian instruction, or equivalent knowledge
- Intermediate Armenian:
Successful completion of CLI Intensive Intermediate Armenian, 2 semesters of 200-level Armenian instruction, or equivalent knowledge
Participants live in the Yerevan State University's downtown guesthouse in double-occupancy rooms. They are responsible for their own meals, but there are numerous cafes in the neighborhood, a grocery store nearby, and mini refrigerators in the guesthouse rooms.
