Summer Program: Albanian in Tirana
The Tirana 3-week summer study-abroad program is a 2-credit intensive course designed to extend and solidify language skills developed in CLI intensive Albanian classes.
The Tirana program offers 2 levels of instruction:
- Elementary Albanian in Tirana (Syllabus (Pending))
- Intermediate Albanian in Tirana (Syllabus (Pending))
Students in both courses share a common set of activities and excursions. See the Tirana activities schedule (pending).
A short train ride to Durres, on the the Adriatic Sea, Tirana is Albania's administrative, cultural, economic, and industrial center. The city has been inhabited since the Neolithic period. The University of Tirana, with its vibrant intellectual atmosphere, boasts seven faculties including humanities and science programs.
Classes meet 3 hours a day on weekdays. Cultural activities take place every afternoon. For a complete list of activities, see the Tirana activities schedule (pending).
Books and materials are the same as those for the intensive Elementary Albanian at ASU (SLC 194) and intensive Intermediate Albanian at ASU (SLC 294).
- Elementary Albanian (SLC 494, 2 credits):
Successful completion of CLI Intensive Elementary Albanian, or 2 semesters of 100-level Albanian, or equivalent knowledge - Intermediate Albanian (SLC 494, 2 credits):
Successful completion of CLI Intensive Intermediate Albanian, or 2 semesters of 200-level Albanian, or equivalent knowledge
Students are placed in private or shared housing in individual apartments or with families (student's choice). Participants purchase meals in local restaurants and cafeterias.
The Tirana summer study-abroad program fee for 2010 is not yet available. In 2009, the program fee was $1,045 per student. The program fee covers instruction, housing, and excursions. It does not include airfare to Albania, books, meals, or personal expenses.
