Summer Program: Macedonian in Ohrid

About the Program:

The Ohrid 3-week summer study-abroad program is a 2-credit intensive course designed to extend and solidify language skills developed in CLI intensive Macedonian classes.

The Ohrid program offers 2 levels of instruction:

  1. Elementary Macedonian in Ohrid (Syllabus)
  2. Intermediate Macedonian in Ohrid (Syllabus)

Students in both courses share a common set of activities and excursions. See the Ohrid activities schedule.

About the Location:

Located on picturesque Lake Ohrid, the city of Ohrid is in the southwestern corner of the Republic of Macedonia, and is the premier resort region of this former Yugoslav republic. Known for its historic role in the spread of Eastern Orthodoxy in the Slavic world, Ohrid is situated near the intersection of Macedonian, Albanian, and Greece. Lake Ohrid, the largest inland lake in the Balkans, keeps Ohrid naturally cool in the summer. The Ohrid Summer Festival, which runs concurrently with the ASU Practicum, features world class musical and dramatic productions performed in the historic Cathedral of St. Sophia.

Schedule:

Classes meet 3 hours a day on weekdays. Cultural activities take place every afternoon. For a complete list of activities, see the Ohrid activities schedule.
