Intensive Tatar in Kazan

The Critical Languages Institute offers an 8-week intensive language program in Kazan for students of Intermediate Tatar. The program awards 8 ASU credits at the 200 level. Students live with host families, participate in an extensive program of cultural events and excursions, as well as participating in summer internships and daily intensive language courses.

The intermediate course in Tatar is a continuation of the elementary course and is intended to enhance overall communicative competence in Tatar. First, a revision of the major points of Tatar grammar and of the basic lexicon will be made. The main goal of the course is to build on the students’ Tatar vocabulary, grammar and orthography and to further develop listening, reading, conversational and compositional skills. In particular, students will improve their ability to comprehend and exchange ideas with native speakers. Students will also express original ideas, report on various types of events, and conduct interviews in the language. Upon the completion of the course, students are expected to achieve level 1+ or 2 on the ILR proficiency scale.

A working knowledge of Russian, while not required, will be vary helpful to students of Tatar in Kazan.

Gulnur Shaikhutdinova

Gulnur Shaikhutdinova is an associate professor at the Tatar State University for Humanities and Education in the Departments of International Communitation and English. 2010 is her first summer teaching for CLI-Kazan.
