Intensive Elementary Tatar

Intensive Tatar in Kazan

The Critical Languages Institute offers an 8-week intensive language program in Kazan for students of Elementary Tatar. The program awards 8 ASU credits at the 100 level. Students live with host families, participate in an extensive program of cultural events and excursions, as well as participating in summer internships and daily intensive language courses.

This intensive course provides a comprehensive introduction to modern Tatar language and culture.

The goal of the course is to guide students towards basic communicative skills in Tatar, while also ensuring a solid command of the fundamental grammatical structures.

The course will help students learn to communicate in Tatar, to understand Tatar culture, and to function effectively in a Tatar setting.

By the completion of this course, students are expected to acquire a proficiency level of ILR 1 in listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

They should be able to read and write in Tatar and communicate easily on everyday topics. They should be able to write and translate simple texts, write short essays, letters, and advertisements.

A working knowledge of Russian, while not required, will be very helpful to students of Tatar in Kazan.
