Intensive Third-Year Russian (in Kazan, Russia)

This course provides students with academic knowledge of modern Russian, emphasizing real-life conversational strategies, effective writing and reading, and grammatical accuracy. The course covers in detail the vocabulary and grammatical structures required for communicating about day-to-day and academic topics in multiple registers.
Listening, speaking, reading, grammar and writing will be covered, with an emphasis on practical application. Students work extensively with authentic materials.
By the end of this course, you should:
• be familiar with all the common grammatical structures of Modern Russian
• participate actively in conversations, with reasonable grammatical accuracy and pronunciation
• be able to distinguish formal and informal speech
• be able to read and compose culturally appropriate correspondence and short essays
• extract the main idea and details from both spoken and written narrative
• follow news broadcasts at normal speed
• skim Russian texts for specific information.
Gulnaz Khamidullina holds a degree in language pedagogy from Kazan State University. She has been teaching English, Tatar, and Russian since 2006, and is currently completing a Ph.D. at Kazan State University. In 2009/2010 she served as foreign language teaching assistant for Bucknell University. She has been teaching for CLI-Kazan since 2010.
About CLI's 8-Week Courses in Kazan
This course is conducted off the ASU campus, in Kazan, Russia. It includes:
- 8 weeks for 8 ASU credits (equals 2 semesters of regular classes)
- Students arrange their own travel (Exception: ROTC students on Project GO scholarships; their travel is arranged by Project GO).

This course is open to any applicant over 18, including undergraduate, graduate, and non-degree students. Non-ASU students and non-students are welcome. Federal employees and active duty military personnel may participate in Arizona-based courses, but are not eligible for CLI study-abroad programs.
Enrollment is limited and competitive.
COST DETAILS
The 2012 Kazan 8-week study-abroad fee is estimated at $3,400 (subject to change). This fee covers:
