Intensive Intermediate Russian
This intensive course provides an intermediate-level introduction to Russian language and culture. Lessons will combine textbook materials with authentic texts and videos and with frequent team exercises to help students achieve a working, practical knowledge of the language and culture.
The course will also place a heavy emphasis on “learning how to learn,” on the importance of dealing with spontaneous Russian, and on “bootstrapping” techniques for extracting meaning effectively from unscripted materials.
By the end of the course, students should be able to understand factual written and spoken content on familiar topics, to participate in routine social interactions, and to accomplish daily tasks in Russian. Students are expected to have a solid command of the core grammatical constructions of Russian and a reading familiarity with the entire grammar.
Kathleen Evans-Romaine (Ph.D. University of Michigan) has been teaching intermediate Russian in the CLI since 2008 and has been director of the Institute since 2009. She worked at the Middlebury Russian School from 2002 to 2007, and before that in the editorial offices of Moscow Magazine and Delovie Lyudi magazine in Moscow.
Instructor details reflect CLI 2009. CLI 2010 data may differ.
