About the Location: 

University of SarajevoServing as Bosnia's administrative, economic, cultural, and educational center, Sarajevo consists of four municipalities: Old City, Center, New City, and New Sarajevo. The city boasts a number of museums, galleries, cultural centers, historic buildings, a national theater and opera, and old markets. There are notable architectural influences from the time Bosnia-Herzegovina was part of the Ottoman Empire, the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and the former Yugoslavia.

About the University: 

This program is housed at The Center for Interdisciplinary Postgraduate Studies at the University of Sarajevo and the Association of Young Linguists and Interpreters of BiH. The University of Sarajevo was founded in 1949 and has 23 faculties and academies. The primary language of instruction will be in Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian (B/C/S), but there are courses offered in English.

Program Dates: 

Semesters run September 1 - December 15 and January 15 - May 1.
Participants may attend either semester alone or enroll for a year-long, two-semester program.

About the Program: 

The Melikian Center coordinates study abroad in Sarajevo for students enrolled at ASU through The Center for Interdisciplinary Postgraduate Studies (CIPS) and The Association of Young Linguists and Interpreters of BiH (AYLI). Each semester, AYLI provides eight semester credit hours language course work in Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian with instruction in reading, composition, listening, speaking and CIPS provides six semester credit hours in area studies instruction in courses that are part of their regular post-graduate curriculum. CIPS also provides practical assistance to the student during this program of study, including housing assistance, program direction, and access to CIPS facilities, including the computer lab.

Eligibility: 

The program is open to upper division and graduate students enrolled at ASU with a GPA of at least 3.0 who have completed two semesters of BCS. Candidates not at this level should consider attending the ASU Critical Languages Institute the summer before participating in this program.

Finanicial Aid: 

Most ASU scholarships, grants, and loans can be used to help pay study abroad costs. Students should consult with financial aid counselors.

ASU Credit: 

Working with the Melikian Center and professors on campus, students arrange for the transfer of credits from CIPS and AYLI to ASU.

Apply on line through the Study abroad office. Applications are due March 1 for the fall semester program and academic year program and October 1 for the spring semester program.
